Man slashed in snatch theft attempt

KUANTAN: A man was slashed on his back and arm in a scuffle with a snatch thief behind an apartment block in Bentong.

State CID liaison officer Asst Supt Noor Asyikin Shamsuri said the thief came from behind and snatched the 34-year-old victim’s necklace at 10.40pm on Monday. “The victim put up a fight and during the scuffle was slashed on the back and arm. He shouted for help and the thief ran away,’’ she said here yesterday.

ASP Noor Asyikin said a suspect, aged 39, was arrested about half an hour after a report was lodged. The suspect was found hiding in the guard house of the apartment block.
Initial investigations showed that the suspect, now detained under Section 394 of the Penal Code, had seven previous convictions for criminal and drug activities.
